Pelvic Prolapse

Pelvic prolapse occurs when the muscles in the pelvic floor become too weak to support the organs in the pelvis; the uterus, bladder or rectum and the organ drops, or becomes displaced.frustrated_young_woman

Lifestyle changes may be very helpful in preventing or dealing with a prolapse, including:

1) Give up smoking.  Get help if you need it!  Not only will your prolapse benefit from not being put under the extra strain often associated with smokers cough, but your overall health will improve significantly.

2) If you’re overweight, reducing your weight and maintaining a healthy weight will help.  Again, this is something you can get help with; you don’t have to deal with all these issues on your own.  The emotional support you can receive from other women who may be in the same situation can be a great help, don’t underestimate it!

3) Eat a high fibre diet and ensure that you avoid becoming constipated or straining when going to the toilet.

4) Avoid heavy lifting or straining.

5) Exercising against the progressive resistance of the Kegelmaster™ may also help, especially if your doctor recommends pelvic floor exercises, as the Kegelmaster makes pelvic floor exercises much more effective.

It is well known that following a hysterectomy some women will develop a problem with incontinence after the surgery.  Vaginal vault prolapse, where the vagina literally collapses in on itself, can occur sometimes many years after the surgery.

Properly exercising the pelvic floor muscle following a hysterectomy to strengthen may help to prevent prolapse of the other pelvic organs and incontinence.

N.B. You mukegelmasteronpurplebackgroundcroppedst wait until at least 6 weeks after your surgery or until after your post-op check up before using your Kegelmaster™.
